Mongolia produces a third of the global supply of cashmere; the product, also, makes up 40 percent of the country's non-mineral exports. The price of cashmere rose to MNT 100 thousand per kilogram earlier this spring. However, the price of the warm goat wool has been slowly decreasing on Mongolian markets to MNT 80-95 thousand. On average 250 grams of cashmere is combed from one goat. A total of 19.6 million goats are bred in Mongolia.
