Last year, “Ulaanbaatar Railway” transported 21 million tons of freight. During the first eleven months of 2015, the figure has fallen to 17,373,000 tons and 25,983 passengers. The number of passengers has fallen by 15% and income by 30%. “UB Railway” representatives have said that economical slowdown of the Chinese economy has had an impact on freight transportation.
Also, the creation of domestic cement and building material plants has resulted in a decline in imports. This represents a figure of 700,000 tons.
During 2010-2012, the Mongolian and Russian governments invested USD 250 million in “Ulaanbaatar Railway” primarily in technical upgrading.
